About Nora

Nora Profit is an award winning journalist, feature writer, columnist, and author.  She is a featured author in Chicken Soup for the Writer’s Soul and Chicken Soup: Living Your Dreams. She is also the author of 10 Glaring Mistakes Amateur Writers Make and How to Avoid Them and The Ultimate Novel Writing Workbook. She has more than 400 articles in print with credentials that include weekly columnist, news reporter, public relations professional, fiction and nonfiction writer, and contributing magazine editor.

Nora started The Writing Loft, Northern California’s only creative writing school, in Paradise, California in 2001. It is a place where she is changing the way would-be writers think about their artistic abilities and the craft of writing. She has designed a program whereby writers can make an impact through newspapers, books, magazines, television, the theater, and the movie industry using easy-to-comprehend methods that ensure success.

Nora captivates her students with her unique teaching style and, just like writing itself, weaves her teaching with tales of events and successes that make for interesting and compelling lectures. The Writing Loft averages three published students a month.

"Anyone can learn to write and write well,” says Nora, “Writers have always been on the forefront of bringing meaning and significance to the events that influence our lives. That’s why writing well and with impact is so important.”

She teaches creative writing at local area colleges and has hosted the popular, “Sunday Afternoon at The Loft,” a monthly live interview session featuring bestselling authors such as James Rollins (Map of Bones), William Martin (The Tao Te Ching for Parents), and Bud Gardner (co-editor, Chicken Soup for the Writer’s Soul).

Others that she has interviewed for publication include such notable individuals as Paul Theroux, author of Mosquito Coast, Rev. Cecil Williams of Glide Memorial Church, San Francisco, California, Regina Williams, former San Jose City Manager and Marcia Ann Gillespie, Editor of Ms. Magazine.

Her speaking credits include the National Organization of Naval Officers, The Writer’s Resource Center, California Writing Clubs, groups associated with Poets and Writers, writer's organizations and workshops, as well as professional organizations.

A graduate of San Jose State University, Nora received a degree in Journalism and went on to own the public relations firm, The Profit Exchange, providing promotional materials for business and professional clients.
